Keep It Rockin’

With its towering trees, fertile fields and rumbling waters, Alabama is a land full of majesty and splendor. So it’s no surprise Monroe County native John Rawls uses raw resources to make his own splendid staple of Southern comfort—Alabama oak rocking chairs.

It would be an understatement to say carving and creating a beautiful blond oak rocking chair takes time and skill. And John Rawls is insistent he put his love into each and everyone one. But two of his most recent rocking chairs were special. They serendipitously found a home at Camp Hope, a special retreat for foster siblings who, for whatever reason, were separated when the foster care system found a home for them.

Today, as children swing back and forth, back and forth, and find joy in being reunited with loved ones, the beauty of the chair may take a momentary backseat. But the memories and feelings and comfort of front porch rockin’ will last a lifetime.
