Heritage Hot From the Kitchen

edited italianHistory comes alive and so will your taste buds at “Cooking Southern Italian: An Evening in a Sicilian Kitchen” at Vulcan Park and Museum in Birmingham on March 12. Discover the Magic City’s Italian heritage at this delicious event, which is the second segment of the Park and Museum’s “Birmingham Revealed” series. The interactive cooking demonstration features Mary Jo Gagliano of La Tavolo Sicilian Italian Cooking School & Imports and Chef Chris Vizzina,s who will share the secrets of Sicilian cooking with a focus on the origins of the herbs and spices often used in the region.

Learn the techniques as the pair whip up “Bucatini con Fagiolini Pomodori Secchi e Patate” (green beans and sundried tomatoes over pasta and potatoes) and “Frutti di Mare” (various seafood prepared in a marinara sauce served over pasta). Then, taste delicious antipasti dishes and sip Italian wines for a small additional fee.  The event ticket ($10 for general admission and $8 for Vulcan Park and Museum members) includes the chance to stroll through the special exhibit “La Storia: Birmingham’s Italian Community.”
